Eating healthy food is very important for everyone. But there are some foods that are very good, especially for issues that affect women, such as pregnancy, brittle bones, breast cancer, and more. These “super foods” are rich in nutrients (often more than one!) that will help to protect your body and keep it working well, at any age. Here are some of the super foods that every woman should add to their diet.
1. KALE
Kale is a rich source of vitamin K that works with calcium and vitamin D to keep your bones strong and healthy. One serving of Kale has over 20% of the daily recommended amounts of vitamins A and C.
2. BEANS
Beans are high in fiber and have lots of protein. They can lower your blood sugar, blood pressure, blood sugar, and heart rate – all of these health issues can lead to heart disease, the major reason behind women in the US.
3. BERRIES AND CHERRIES
Berries and cherries are rich source of flavonoids and antioxidants. These antioxidants can protect healthy cells from getting damage. Berries keep your brain sharper as you get older. The vitamin C in berries build collagen and the protein keeps your skin firm and smooth.
4. PAPAYA
Papaya contains beta carotene and lycopene. Lycopene in Papaya lowers the chances of getting cervical and breast cancers. Being an antioxidant, too, it helps in keeping cholesterol and blood pressure at normal levels to help ward off heart disease.
5. GRAPEFRUIT
Grapefruits are all about flavonoids. Being rich in flavonoids, adding grapefruits to your diet reduces the chances of strokes and keeps your heart healthy. Grapefruit can interact with your medications. So if you’re on any medication, make sure to consult with your doctor before you put in grapefruit on the menu
6. WALNUTS
Walnuts contain fatty acids. Adding them to your diet may prevent cancer. So make sure to eat walnuts daily.
7. PLAIN, LOW-FAT YOGURT
Your body needs more amount of calcium when you’re in your 50. Yogurt contains lots of calcium and just 8 ounces of yogurt can give approx. one third of your calcium for the day. Make sure to get enough of vitamin D through your diet so that your body can use calcium properly.
8. FLAXSEED
Flaxseed is bursting with lignans as well as fiber. Lignan is a plant compounds that act like estrogen. Adding flaxseed to your diet can lower the risk of some cancers, including breast cancer. Make sure to check with your doctor before you add flaxseed to your diet; it can affect how well some medications work.
